Sometimes you just have to go with flow of things, but this pragmatic approach can still take its toll - both physically and emotionally. The surgery (and its delightful aftermath) in and of itself was enough for me to handle, but unfortunately, it has had a catastrophic effect on the health concerns that I was already dealing with. However, there is always something that can be done to make the journey through tumultuous times that little bit easier. Without intending it, I ended up finding solace in my wash-bag. Below are some of my recent discoveries in the face-mask line that I highly recommend for when you want a boost; inside and out.
Clarins HydraQuench Cream Mask
Given that I have very dry skin, I love a mask that effectively restores hydration and leaves my skin perfectly prepped for an intense moisturiser. This mask ticks all the boxes - it glides on easily, doesn't irritate sensitive areas, leaves my skin silky soft. I like to buff my face gently with a warm facecloth to remove any mask, and this one comes off easily with no residue. It retails for approximately 40 Euro and is available at Clarins counters.
Decleor Aroma White Brightening Purifying Mask
Perhaps the lengthy name is suggestive of what this product delivers. When I feel like a lift for both my mood and my senses, this is my go-to beautifying treat. It has a lovely silky texture and both softens and brightens the skin. I would highly recommend this for anyone with combination, normal or dry skin because it strikes the right balance between purifying and soothing.
Alpha-H Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Mask
Whilst I love the above two masks, as a sufferer of psoriasis, I have to be more cautious in my use of products that contain parabens. When my skin is feeling particularly sensitive but still requires a deep clean, I reach for this mask from Alpha-H. It is designed specifically for people with conditions including psoriasis - my kind of skincare! It has a strong percentage of glycolic acid, meaning that is great from removing impurities without involving exfoliating beads. I love the creamy, thick consistency and the subtle sent. From the packaging to the results, applying this is like a spa ritual at home.
Caudalie Instant Detox Mask
My favourite of the bunch, this is my product of choice for days when I need a pick-me-up. It has a very pleasant scent and sets on the face like a traditional mask. When massaged off with warm water, it leaves a soft and glowing complexion. The best part? It contains no alcohols, sulphates or parabens and is only 24 Euro from Space NK.
I do not profess to be a skincare expert, but I have learnt many valuable tips and tricks in tending to sensitive and problematic skin. I am also a strong believer in taking small steps to better my mood in whatever way I can, rather than letting my low days get the better of me. For me, it seems, that happier skin helps to support and happier mind. I hope you might discover that the same works for you.
